BC Bike Race announces the Kazlaw Community Foundation Award

Vancouver B.C. – BC Bike Race the ‘Ultimate Singletrack Experience’ and Kazimirski Law Corporation are giving away two entries to the 2013 BC Bike Race, currently ‘SOLD OUT’. We’re excited to announce the Kazlaw Community Mountain Biking Award! The Kazlaw Community Foundation is providing two spots at the BC Bike Race 2013 for people who make mountain biking happen in their community.

Who Makes Mountain Biking Happen in Your Town?

We’re asking you to nominate deserving riders in your community for this award. What do we mean by a deserving rider? They could be a trail builder, a dedicated volunteer, an inspiring rider, a developing young racer, or anyone else you feel deserves this opportunity!

Marc Kazimirski is a passionate cyclist, a former Canadian national team member and is a personal injury lawyer in Vancouver BC. Marc is a cycling advocate and the Kazlaw Community Mountain Biking Award is meant to support cycling in your community.

To nominate someone, please submit a short summary (up to 500 words) describing what this person does to make mountain biking happen, along with one to four inspiring photos. Email nominations to karen@bcbikerace.com by April 16th, when we’ll announce the eligible nominees and put it back to you to VOTE ON THE MOST DESERVING RIDERS.

2012 Dumpster Dive Race!

Mt Work Hartland CRD Regional Park.
Victoria B.C.

Course Description:

The course is the same as the past 5 years, with some small improvements thanks to the SIMBS Trail crew.  Expect 90% singletrack and 90% descending but don’t expect to win on a downhill bike.
This course is ideal for a 6″ all-mountain bike. Times will range from 9-15+ minutes. There are no shuttles! You need to get yourself to the top of the course. The climb will range from 20-30 minutes. Course Starts at the top of
Jelly Roll.  Trails include Jelly Roll, Lumpy pants, up the fire road to Who’s yer Daddy, Night Shift, down the fire road to Short Cut and into the back of the TTA.

NEW this year will be electronic chip timing performed by Race Day Timing.  This will ensure accurate and fast timing results.  To make this happen we will have mandatory online registration. » Read more: 2012 Dumpster Dive Race!

Steve Smith 1st Place in Norway!

Steve Smith - Team Devinci

A big congratulations goes out to Cassidy BC’s Steve Smith for winning his first (of many I am sure) World Cup DH races. In a time of 3:31.764 he beat out teammate George Brannigan by just .4 of a second to take Team Devinci Global Racing to a first and second place in the final race of the season. The best part for the team was the fact that not only did they take first and second on the podium, but they also had Nick Beer in 5th place…a solid showing by the Wilson riders for sure!

Congrats on all the hard work by all the riders this season, but especially to our local DH hero Steve Smith…way to go man, nice work!

First Annual Alert Bay Dog Run

July 1st 2012, Alert Bay is hosting its first annual mountain bike race, the Alert Bay Dog Run. The trails up here are great; they run from easy, flowy stuff with plenty of room to pass and sections that are a challenge to just about anyone. The Dog Run will take people over the entire island and most of the way back again.  Come up and enjoy riding these great trails and help raise money for animal rescue at the same time.

Dogs, cats, and eagles all get our help when they are injured and the first two get spayed as long funds are available.  That is the main reason for this race.  It might help showcase the Island’s great trails too, but keep the cause in mind when you are sweating your way up some brutal climb.  Are you just a casual rider?  Don’t let that stop you from entering the race!  It isn’t about winning. its about finishing and helping improve the lives of many animals. » Read more: First Annual Alert Bay Dog Run
