This is indeed a sad day… well for me and a lot of the people I know at least it is. Mt Washington Alpine Resort has made the decision to close its trails to Mountain Bikes for the 2013 season and likely forever it sounds like? “Due to escalating costs which includes things like insurance, fuel and labour as well as a continued flat market the Resort has made the decision that the Bike Park is not a viable operation at this time. It is unfortunate that we have to close the Park but over the last few years we have struggled to create a Bike Park that can grow the business however, the numbers are not there to support the operation”. This means an abrupt end to the only lift access trails on Vancouver Island. What does this mean to me personally, well I think Russ Campbell summed it up pretty well in a comment to Mt Washington on Facebook, “some of my best times on a bike happened there”. So what it means to me is that one of my favorite places to hang out with my riding Bro’s and Sista’s is now gone…and that just plain sucks. » Read more: Mt Washington Bike Park – Closed

Mt Washington Bike Park – Closed
April 30th, 2013Bearclaw Invitational 2012
July 14th, 2012I have only personally been able to attend 2 of these events, but they were RAD. I am stoked that we get to have an event of this kind right here on our own Mt Washington. Be sure to be there…it will be a good time for sure.
“The Bearclaw Invitational will be the most progressive slopestyle event of the year, and yes, you can count on the course being topnotch, since I’m the one building it. The course itself will have all the big obstacles the boys are used to and then some surprises thrown in as well, all built around a 4″ to 6″ travel bike. It will have a very authentic West Coast feel, since it’s being built in the forest at Mount Washington. What’s really rad is that this Bearclaw Invitational course will be permanent, so no more building and then tearing it down each fall.” » Read more: Bearclaw Invitational 2012

If the pictures on Pinkbike are anything to go by, I missed a stellar event this year (ugh). Check out Pinkbike for all of the details, and as mentioned some stellar shots of the comp and the riders going off! Big props to Mount Washington for hosting such an amazing world-class event again. I am very glad that this has become one of if not “the” event on the island for top level pro riders!

These bikes and another that belonged to a friend were stolen earlier this week from a hotel parking lot in Nanaimo BC. Just days before the slope style comp at Mt Washington, where both would have been well used I am sure. If you have seen either one of these, please contact the Nanaimo RCMP or contact Banshee Bikes, and they will follow up. Here is the Scaren that was stolen along with the 2 Banshees.
