Gemini Lights – Olympia LED

December 2nd, 2012

Some of you know Gemini, some of you may not…but you should. Gemini Lightswas originally a Victoria BC based Outdoor Sports (ok Mountainbike) lighting company that has gone global! The are offering some AMAZINGLY powerful and feature filled lights and some very compelling prices. From what I have seen, price per lumen is likely the best out there. The Gemini Olympia is a 3 LED housing (Cree LED’s no less) with 10 different steps between 10-100% brightness and 3 customizable light modes. It is honking out a mind boggling 1800 lumens and all of this running off of quality Samsung Lithium Ion batteries.

Arbutus Racks, Your Next Rack?

Arbutus Racks, one of, if not the newest specialty bike rack makers on the scene, and they have a pretty compelling product…here’s why.

In the upscale bike rack market there are a number of players, some more useful and utilitarian than others, some more trendy and flashy than others. Really, times are good if you are looking for options to hang your beloved steed from your <insert shuttle/transport rig here>. Me, I have tried a number of racks and rack designs over the years. A Saris 2 bike drop in is my current rack, but I have had Thule, SportRack, Swagman to name a few. If you are like me, you have also tried a few, some successfully and others not so much. For me it is always about what works the best, is the easiest to use and is the safest for my expensive hardware. I love the platform-drop-in style of rack, literally like 10 second bike loading. My last Thule (956 Parkway Model), while strong and simple was a beyotch to load my Norco Shore on. Interrupted seat tubes suck on some racks! » Read more: Arbutus Racks, Your Next Rack?

Victoria BC Based Gemini Lights

Gemini Lights

I recently spoke with Chris Lai of the Victoria BC based bicycle lighting company Gemini Lights to get the 411 on his line of low cost high powered bicycle lights. Chris is a no nonsense sort of guy, a guy who wanted to ride his bike at night. You and I would go buy some lights right? Chris took it a little further than that, ok a lot further than that! Read on about Gemini Lights in Chris’ own words.

Chris Lai – Gemini Lights.

“In 2010 I set out to explore the realm of night riding. I found myself wishing I were out more riding, during the winter days. The only thing that kept me from doing so was a decent night riding light. I looked at lighting solutions out there and read countless reviews to try and make an informed decision on my next bike related purchase. I found the products presented to me were a lot more than I could afford. Being a student at UVic, where tuition takes up a large portion of my savings, I really couldn’t justify the spending. And so I had the idea of starting Gemini Lights. Using contacts that I already had in Asia and knowledge of how factories operate I built a plan to manufacture quality lights for riders at an affordable rate. I made some calls and got some help from my family and Gemini Lights was born.”
