Harbourview Mt. Whimper Challenge (Updated)

April 13th, 2012

Mt Whimper

New date April 29th The Harbourview Mt. Whimper Challenge!

Ride / Hike-a-bike up Mt. Quimper by way of Harbourview road and the North Trail, to the top of FM Radio. There will be a mandatory “sobriety” test at the top. You might have to balance a balloon on your nose or blow one up, I don’t know? I am certain Dan will think of something? Ride down FM Radio across Harbourview road, down Kumquat/Ankle Biter/Hump then up to the top of GT1 (DH trail). Trail Map Here

There will be another mystery test at the top. Do a small puzzle/Deflate and pump up your tire/do a basic bike fix (on our bike)/drink an entire coffee or maybe have a choice. But who knows. It will be a surprise. Nothing crazy just to make it fun. Ride down The GT trails to the parking lot!

We will make sure the course is marked with flour and orange flagging tape. With the words MTB Race on them. To avoid confusion with other events like last time. Embarassed Sorry about that trail runners. There will be prizes and who knows perhaps we should make a cup?

If you are interested, check the VIMB.com forum thread on the event here. Start time yet to be determined (or maybe I missed it)?

This event sent in by Dan Cammiade of Freak Maps fame!

Edit: Check out the SWEET looking trophy made by a VIMB regular! Nice work JC!

Harborview Garbage cleanup Saturday, September 25

September 23rd, 2010

harborview_shields_cleanup

Harborview Volunteer Garbage Cleanup… this coming Saturday, September 25.

Submitted to VIMB.

Meet in the Harbourview Road parking lot in Sooke at 9:00 AM. Bring a pack for garbage as we’ll be cleaning up the top of Manuel Quimper. There will also be a group hiking up to Sheilds Lake for more clean-up and a possible boat repair job.
Bring yourself, your bike, a friend, and work gloves and a garbage bag.
Remove garbage, glass etc.
All are welcome. There will be all sorts of user groups out there.
As much time as you can give. It’s ok to come for an hour or whatever.
This is a great opportunity to represent the MTB community, meet some of the other park users and give back a bit for all the users and the land owner. CRD are very grateful that we are doing this. Think of it as a ride that keeps giving.

Be sure to check out the Forum for details.

Saturday June 26th: Harbourview Rd (Shields Lake) Cleanup. UPDATED!!

June 22nd, 2010

Harbourview Road Trail CleanupHello All,

This coming Saturday June the 26th there is a garbage and trail cleanup planned for a 9:00 AM start. If you are able to attend, please show your support for the trails, and for the trail builders and for the new park by showing up and helping to clean up. Bring your bike, ride in and haul out what you can.

Items to bring are:

-Bike

-Work Gloves

-Bike Trailer(s)

-Garbage Bags

-Food and Water

If you have a bike trailer that you don’t mind hauling out some garbage with (in bags) please bring it along. This work will be taking place around the back of Shields lake (see map here), all garbage will be hauled out from the lake area and dropped at Harbourview Road and the CRD maintenance folks will haul it all out in their trucks. If you can get out to help, it will be appreciated. Dan Cammiade has spent time organizing this cleanup, and could use the show of support and the help!
