Cecelia Ravine is four hectares in area consisting of three City parks – Cecelia Ravine Park, Viaduct Park, and Cecelia Cove Park. The area is home to Cecelia Creek and migratory bird habitat, as well as the City’s award-winning Burnside Gorge Community Centre. Located between Burnside Road and the north side of the Selkirk Trestle, Cecelia Ravine is considered to be a gateway to the City of Victoria for pedestrians and cyclists who use the Galloping Goose Regional Trail.
Additional space will be available in the future. In July 2010, City Council passed a resolution to have the building at 3130 Napier Lane deconstructed and converted into community open space. The work is anticipated to begin in December.
Based on valuable community input at a spring open house and a Trail Day information booth in April, the City of Victoria is developing a management plan to guide future improvements to Cecelia Ravine. The goal is to create a safe and enjoyable park that protects and enhances the creek and surrounding parklands.
The community was invited to an open house on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Burnside Gorge Community Center to learn more and provide input on proposed improvements such as safer trail access points; new community garden space; nature and wildlife interpretation; a strategy to manage invasive species; a bike road safety learning area; an off-road bike skills park; outdoor fitness stations; and a hard surface sports court.
If you were unable to attend the open house, the displays will be available for viewing online below and at the Parks office in Beacon Hill Park between Friday, November 26 and Friday, December 3, 2010. To arrange an appointment, please call 250.361.0600 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. or email parks@victoria.ca.
Below is the fact sheet that was mailed to the surrounding community, inviting them to attend the open house.

Hello All,
This coming Saturday June the 26th there is a garbage and trail cleanup planned for a 9:00 AM start. If you are able to attend, please show your support for the trails, and for the trail builders and for the new park by showing up and helping to clean up. Bring your bike, ride in and haul out what you can.
Items to bring are:
-Bike
-Work Gloves
-Bike Trailer(s)
-Garbage Bags
-Food and Water
If you have a bike trailer that you don’t mind hauling out some garbage with (in bags) please bring it along. This work will be taking place around the back of Shields lake (see map here), all garbage will be hauled out from the lake area and dropped at Harbourview Road and the CRD maintenance folks will haul it all out in their trucks. If you can get out to help, it will be appreciated. Dan Cammiade has spent time organizing this cleanup, and could use the show of support and the help!

UPDATED… Petition link below
In a recent reversal of policy, the Capital Regional District parks committee is looking at the option to allow Offroad Vehicles (OHV) into some of the local “wilderness parks”. No this does not mean you can run your quad in Beacon Hill park, but it may mean you can do it (legally) at places such as Harbourview Road in the future. This is an entirely new direction for CRD Parks, and one that is stirring up a lot of controversy (to say the least).
There is a good story on this in the Times Colonist dated the 18th of March 2010. While the story is brief, the comments are getting longer by the day. Of course some are for and some are against this direction, with very few commenter’s sitting on the proverbial fence. I suggest that you all have a good long read of this story, and the stories to follow, as I am certain that this is not going to go away anytime soon. And do NOT forget to read the comments, there is some very strong opinions on both sides of this, and some food for thought in there.
More to come as this unfolds…
If you have anything to say on this, check out the VIMB.com Forum post on this topic, post your thoughts.
