Hello fellow Mountain Bikers,

It is that time of year again.  The SIMBS Annual General Meeting is happening at the Victoria Events Center 1415 Broad St next Thursday January 26th at 7:00pm.  We will follow a similar format to last year with the usual business like a review of 2011, election of the 2012 board of directors, q&a, raffle prizes, photo contest, and bar service.  The event is all ages and will run for approximately 2 hours. Bring some cash for the raffle, membership, and beverages.

This is a great opportunity to renew your SIMBS membership for 2012 and to learn about how to get involved with your local riding community. We are always looking for prizes and sponsors, if you know of a way to help with the event please send me an email.  Many of you have a big influence over the local riding community and I know you all have friends that ride so please grab a friend (or 10) spread the word and come down to support your local riding group. We hope to see you there!

Steve Smith

A big VIMB Congratulations to Steve Smith, Canadian Cyclist of the year for 2011!

December 29/11 17:55 pm – 2011 Canadian Cyclist of the Year Awards – the Winners

After a record number of ballots, readers have selected the 2011 Canadian Cyclists of the Year.  We want to thank everyone who participated.

Mountain Bike athletes dominated the 2011 Canadian Cyclist of the Year awards, with world champion Catharine Pendrel of Kamloops, BC, taking two awards, and Downhill World Cup professional Steve Smith of Cassidy, BC, the men’s title.  The editorial staff at CC also selected the winner of the Roger Sumner Award, for the Best Newcomer, awarded to road racer Rhae Shaw.  The 15th annual edition of the awards set new records for voting, and some of the closest finishes in history, as cycling enthusiasts from across Canada and around the world voted for their favourite Canadian cyclists across multiple cycling disciplines. » Read more: Canadian Cyclist of the Year Awards
