Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium Takes Shape

Vancouver, BC – March 21, 2013 – The Western Canada Mountain Bike Tourism Association (MBTA) in partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC, Tourism British Columbia, International Mountain Bicycling Association Canada, Royal Roads University, and District of Sooke is proud to present the BC Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium at the Best Western Premier – Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke, BC, May 26-28, 2013.  British Columbia has gained much attention worldwide for its significant role in mountain biking.  The program of the Symposium is entitled “Progression”. Sooke Bike Park under threat

Hello All,
This was sent to me a couple of days ago and I meant to post this sooner. Sadly what appeared to be a slam dunk for the kids out in Sooke may not in fact be a done deal? The Sooke Bike Park appeared to be approved and ready to move to the next phase…but maybe not just yet? Read the letter sent out by the Sooke Bike Club and show your support for this awesome venture!

at the October 9 regular council meeting, mayor and council voted to accept the ‘licence to occupy’ agreement, as written and endorsed by District staff, between the Sooke Bike Club and the DOS, which would allow the Club to move forward with our chosen contractor, Alpine Bike Parks, in building a bike park for our community and in particular, the youth in our community.  Today’s newspaper ran a story regarding the outcome of this meeting;

Harbourview Mt. Whimper Challenge (Updated)

New date April 29th The Harbourview Mt. Whimper Challenge!

Ride / Hike-a-bike up Mt. Quimper by way of Harbourview road and the North Trail, to the top of FM Radio. There will be a mandatory “sobriety” test at the top. You might have to balance a balloon on your nose or blow one up, I don’t know? I am certain Dan will think of something? Ride down FM Radio across Harbourview road, down Kumquat/Ankle Biter/Hump then up to the top of GT1 (DH trail). Trail Map Here…

There will be another mystery test at the top. Do a small puzzle/Deflate and pump up your tire/do a basic bike fix (on our bike)/drink an entire coffee or maybe have a choice. But who knows. It will be a surprise. Nothing crazy just to make it fun. Ride down The GT trails to the parking lot!

We will make sure the course is marked with flour and orange flagging tape. With the words MTB Race on them. To avoid confusion with other events like last time. Embarassed Sorry about that trail runners. There will be prizes and who knows perhaps we should make a cup?
